Heavy on the bottom
Put books, tools and dishes on the bottom and lighter things on top. Keep every tote under 50 lbs so it's safe to lift and stack.
Fill the gaps
Items that shift break. Use towels, linens and clothing to fill empty space around fragile things. They pack themselves and protect your stuff at the same time.
Close the lid flat
If the lid won't close flat, the tote is overpacked. Flat lids stack safely; bulging lids tip over.
Label two sides
Write the room and a short list of what's inside on painter's tape on the end and the side, so you can read it no matter how it's stacked. Peel it off before pickup.
Pack a first-night tote
Sheets, towels, toiletries, medications, chargers, toilet paper and a few basic tools. Mark it clearly and unload it first.
Not sure how many you need?
